North Shore Superintendent Presents Initial 2016-17 Budget Proposal
Proposition 1 & 2 on Ballot BOE Agrees To Stay Within Allowable Tax Levy Limit At the North Shore Schools Board of Education Town meeting on January 14, 2016, Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick presented the Initial 2016-17 budget proposal for the North Shore School District. Proposition 1: School Budget Proposal The 2016-17 budget proposal is $99,494,105.15, representing a budget-to-budget increase of 1.96%. The projected tax levy (the amount that is collected in local property taxes) is estimated at $84,498,092. Revenues including the LIPA payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) are estimated at $14,996,013. The 2016-17 budget proposal maintains all current instructional, extra-curricular, and interscholastic programs. Proposition 2: Capital Reserve Proposal Also on the ballot on Tuesday, May 17th, is Proposition 2. The district is asking for permission to establish a Capital Reserve Fund for a period of 10 years that will be funded up to a maximum of $8.5 million. If approved, the reserve will include the following building projects:

Trustees will adopt the 2016-17 school budget on Thursday, March 31 (not as indicated on the calendar asApril 14).
