NORTH SHORE KEY CLUB HOSTS THEIR SINGLE SERVICE PROJECT 2015-2016 COMPASSION IN ACTION

On January 6th  at North Shore High School, the Key Club hosted their single service project entitled “Compassion In Action.” This event was the brain child of North Shore Key Club President Elias Mastakouis and supported by the entire Key Club membership. Elias said, “The program was distinctly different from most other substance abuse events. We wanted to respond to an epidemic on Long Island in a more compassionate way. The goal was to raise awareness of the true nature of substance abuse, reach out to people who are struggling, and empower our community members to become involved.” 
 
Many Kiwanis dignitaries attended this event including New York State Governor Forbes Irvine who was so please that the North Shore Key Club hosted an event to show support for the Governor’s Project 2015-2016.  Other North Shore Kiwanis dignitaries who attended to show support were SDPLG Larry Benedetti, NS Kiwanis President Roger Hill, and DPP Douglas Barnaby.  In addition, Key Club LG. Amanda Madenburg and LG. Rohit Mathews were also in attendance for this important event. 
 
The program was dynamic and included keynote speaker Anthony Rizzuto, the founder of the FIST(Families in Support of Treatment Organization). Mr. Rizzuto and his team of gifted professionals addressed topics on substance abuse including Prevention, Treatment, Recovery and Advocacy.  Directly following this program, a Resource Fair took place encompassing professionals from over 12 substance programs as well as representatives from prominent self-help groups from Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
 
The North Shore Key Club is very proud of their outstanding accomplishments in providing services that demonstrate their active citizenship. Key Club members strive to make a difference in their community and focus on issues that can affect each and every one of us. Ms. Julia Salat concluded by saying, “Education is the cure to the problem and the North Shore Key Club wants to be part of the solution”
