"SERVE ONE ANOTHER" BENEFIT CONCERT FOR NORTH SHORE INN (GLEN COVE SOUP KITCHEN) ON FRIDAY, MAY 29
May 6, 2015 -- The Glen Cove High School Key Club, with support from the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Shelter Rock, will be sponsoring a Benefit Concert for the North Shore INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) at Glen Cove High School on Friday May 29. The benefit, entitled "Serve One Another," will feature the internationally recognized Glen Cove High School Select Chorale, directed by High School Music Director Ed Norris, and will also include appearances by guest musicians tenor Mark Bleeke, guitarist Jefferey Bleeke, and Eric Milnes, the Director of Music and Organist at St. John's of Lattingtown Episcopal Church.
The North Shore INN, founded 25 years ago, provides a variety of services to those in need in the North Shore area, but is perhaps best known for running the Glen Cove Soup Kitchen out of the basement of the First Baptist Church on Continental Avenue - one of 14 soup kitchens on Long Island operated by the Interfaith Nutrition Network. "Hunger is always painful, and homelessness is always devastating," said the INN's Executive Director, Jean Kelly, "As a society we must make certain that our neighbors are never ignored." Overseen by Sea Cliff resident Estelle Moore, the Glen Cove kitchen is open each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 1 pm, and serves hot meals to more than 200 guests from across the North Shore area each week. Additionally, the INN provides other services, including assistance with medical referrals and prescriptions, and volunteer advocates who direct guests to community and governmental resources, including legal assistance, educational opportunities, and senior activities, as well as parenting, youth and veteran programs. Equally important, the North Shore INN is a place where one can go and find a sense of community and companionship and, of course, be treated with dignity and respect, during any time of the year, including the Holidays. The North Shore INN sustains itself entirely through the efforts of a dedicated staff of volunteers and raising funds entirely through donations and special fundraising events such as the benefit concert, garage sales and bake sales. Over the past few years, the Glen Cove High School Key Club, advised by Sea Cliff resident Mary Ellen Cuomo, has offered a good deal of support to the North Shore INN. Last year alone, the student community service organization raised over $2000 dollars for the INN through various efforts including selling pumpkin bread at the Sea Cliff Mini-mart. The Glen Cove Select Chorale performed at the White House last year and has recently been invited to perform at the Vatican. On the 29th, they will be performing an exciting mix of of folk, classical, new age and classic rock. The suggested donation for "Serve One Another" is $10 for adults and $3 for students. The Concert begins at 7 pm at Glen Cove High School, 150 Dosoris Lane, Glen Cove, NY. For an advanced ticket or to make a contribution please email [email protected]. All (tax deductible) checks can be made out to North Shore INN. BACK TO WEEKLY |
