HAYDN’S “THE SEASONS” AT NORTH SHORE HIGH SCHOOL, April 18, 8 PM
The North Shore Community Chorus (NSCC), under the direction of Stephen Goldstein, and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York (MYO), under the direction of Scott Stickley (Director of Bands, Herricks High School), will perform Franz Joseph Haydn's "The Seasons."
Haydn (1732‒1809), one of the most popular composers of his time and, for 30 years music director and composer in residence of the powerful Esterházy family, constantly amazes with his inventiveness in this oratorio. Soaring melodies alternate with gentle lyrical passages and whimsical folk melodies. Above all a celebration of nature, “The Seasons” offers a vivid depiction of a bucolic world, of life lived close to the land and dependent on seasonal cycles of planting and harvest. Ultimately, Haydn also intended “The Seasons” as a meditation on life’s cycles, on our own lives’ spring and summer that will inevitably pass into autumn and winter. Featured soloists are soprano, Julie Meixsell (concert and recital soloist); tenor, Matthew Koraus (organist, choir director at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Huntington); and bass, Ron Meixsell (voice teacher and concert/recital soloist). Haydn’s “The Seasons” will be performed on Saturday, April 18th at 8 p.m. at North Shore High School, 450 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Head, NY. Tickets: adults $15, seniors and children $12.
