NEW TRUSTEES TO BE SWORN IN, PRESIDENT AND VP TO BE ELECTED AT TUESDAY, JULY 1 BOE MEETING; DISCUSSION OF 2014-15 DISTRICT GOALS
June 30, 2014 -- The North Shore Board of Education will hold its annual Organizational Meeting this Tuesday, July 1 at 8:30 pm in the High School Library, immediately following which, it will convene for a "Special Meeting." Both are open to the public.
During the Organizational Meeting, trustees-elect Joanna Commander and Lara Gonzalez will be sworn into office for their three-year terms and the seven trustees will decide whether Dr. Herman Berliner will continue as President this coming year, as well as who will replace trustee Tom Knierim, who did not seek re-election, as Vice President. Additionally, appointments will be made for many district positions. (click here for agenda). The Special Meeting agenda includes discussions of District Goals and Board Committees for the 2014-15 school year. During the last BOE meeting, on June 19, many parents, concerned about the high class-sizes in next year's Sea Cliff Elementary first grade, turned out to urge the Superintendent and trustees to create an additional section. While not on the agenda for the July 1 meeting, the issue may be raised by community members during the two public comment periods, or by the Superintendent or Board members during the Old Business section of the meeting. Note - Tuesday's Organizational Meeting which will begin at 8:30, an hour later than regular meetings this past year, will be preceded by an executive session, which is closed to the public, at 8 pm.
