Glen Cove, New York - July 22, 2016 - The Stanton Anderson Band returns to the local stage on week four of the 2016 Downtown Sounds Concert Series at the Village Square Plaza in Glen Cove on July 22 at 7:30 pm. Formed in 1972, SAB original members Mark Fowler, Larry Luby and Rick Silecchio will be on hand to revive a sound that helped to create the Long Island music scene of the 1970s.
SAB's power-packed percussion and horns and rhythmic keyboards along with the raspy cabaret voice of lead singer Fowler defined an era and paved the way for Long Island icons including Twisted Sister and Zebra. However, the group disbanded in 1982 when the "hairband" craze and new-wave music took center stage. Fortunately, they reunited with the dawn of the New Millennium and the Long Island music scene came alive once again. The feedback from fans was remarkable.
During the '70s, SAB performed a concert at the legendary Rumbottoms that was broadcast on WLIR. They also opened for the Marshall Tucker Band at the Nassau Coliseum and played on shows with the Allman Brothers and Southside Johnny. But if you think these associations mean that the SAB genre is limited to Southern Rock, guess again. Indeed, SAB's blend of soulful guitar riffs, bluesy lyrics and jazzy bass lines creates a unique sound that defies such a one-dimensional categorization.
In 2000, SAB picked up right where they left off by opening for artists like Eddie Money, Creedence Clearwater Revival and, once again, Marshall Tucker. They also received a L.I.S.A. award from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. But their biggest claim to fame was delighting lifelong fans by reawakening memories of the '70s with their time-honored sound. In addition to the aforementioned original members, the current lineup includes Kevin Rymer on keyboard, the other Rick Silecchio on drums and Tom Pecororo on guitar. This incarnation of SAB also features the Skid Row Horns, led by Pete Tursi on trumpet, Grace Tursi on tenor sax, Ian Platt on tenor and bari sax, and Mike Guido on alto, tenor and bari sax, clarinet and flute.
