Cannell, Nancy & Sandy Epstein, Mildred Feinberg, Iris & Saul Katz Family Foundation and Marvin Schein On Sunday, August 2, Morgan Park Summer Festival presents Plaza Productions’ rendition of West Side Story. The show, which is free to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Morgan Park. Plaza Productions, Long Island’s leading summer musical touring troupe, presents a groundbreaking masterpiece by Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Stephen Sondheim. West Side Story, a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’sRomeo and Juliet, took the theater world by storm in its 1957 debut. The Academy Award-winning 1961 film version is one of the great classics of the American cinema. West Side Story portrays the doomed love between Tony and Maria. Love, bigotry and tragic death play out on the stage in memorable song and dramatically explosive dance showing the rivalries between the Puerto Rican Sharks and the “American” Jets. The incomparable score includes Somewhere, Tonight,America, I Feel Pretty and also the comic Gee, Officer Krupke. West Side Story is underwritten by MPSMFs Golden Benefactors: Peter B.
