WHY I RESIGNED AND WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR DEB MCDERMOTTReceived from Dan Maddock, Sea Cliff
March 9, 2017 I resigned as Chair of the long established Civic Progress Party because it voted to support another candidate dictated by a sitting Mayor. I strongly disagreed with that decision and could not in good conscience ask my friends and neighbors to support their ticket. It’s not good when Mayors continually dictate who will sit on the Village Board. The Board becomes too insular and its members are reluctant to cross the person who put them on the Board or to go against the Mayor. It’s not a good situation and it’s been going on too long. VOTE DEB MCDERMOTT - TRANSPARENT. INDEPENDENT. QUALFIEDReceived from Geri Reichgut, Sea Cliff, March 16, 2017
I’ve lived in Sea Cliff for almost 50 years, Trustees have come and gone, many have put their heart into doing what they could to keep Sea Cliff in step with the times and yet keep the creative, uniqueness and neighborly feeling that we all moved here for. This election, Tuesday, March 21st held at the Children’s Library, I will be voting for Deb McDermott for Village Trustee. She is passionate and energetic about preserving the Sea Cliff we all dearly love. She’s extremely well qualified for the position having worked both in the corporate world and now is also raising her two children who are currently enrolled in the Sea Cliff school. READ MORE |

March 16, 2017 To the Editor: Last night the Civic Progress Party for the Village of Sea Cliff held a “Meet the Candidate” night for the upcoming Sea Cliff Village election which will be take place on March 21, 2017. There are two trustees running as incumbents and Deb McDermott who is running for the first time for a Village trustee seat. Incumbent Trustee Dina Epstein stated, in sum and substance, that there was no ill-will intended by the appointment of a new Mayor, a new Trustee, and a new Public Administrator which was done very quickly and not very publicly. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
CORRECTING THE RECORDReceived from Phil Como, Sea Cliff, NY
March 3, 2017 To the Editor: I thought I would respond to Dan Maddock's letter of your last issue, wherein he describes me as "currently heading the Civic Progress Party, but he's given a front page article on how wonderful the status quo is in Sea Cliff." A couple of facts need to be heard: 1. I do articles in the Village Bulletin for virtually every issue and have done so going back to Dan's time as editor. Karen Montagnese has been editor for at least two issues and I have done work in both. This latest piece on Sea Cliff is apolitical in nature-essentially providing a word picture for uninitiated residents on how Sea Cliff came to be and how it currently works. Status quo?? READ MORE TRUSTEE DEB McDERMOTTReceived from Tom Murphy, Glenwood Landing (formerly of Sea Cliff)

March 10, 2017 To the Editor: To address the recent transition wherein I was selected as Mayor, I am setting forth the statement I publicly read on December 12th and which has been posted on our village's website. I do this to again set forth the factors that the Board of Trustees considered at that time. But in a larger sense, I want to emphasize that, as your Mayor, I will always endeavor to continuously listen to your concerns and various points of view. The lesson of the public's views and those views' value is acknowledged. It is always our goal to listen to your concerns and be better from it. READ MORE |

March 2, 2017 Dear Editor, I can't remember the exact time we met Deb and Dan McDermott because I feel as though they have lived in Sea Cliff forever. AN OUTSTANDING CHOICE FOR SEA CLIFF TRUSTEEReceived From Roger Friedman, Sea Cliff
February 16, 2017 To the Editor: It gives me great pleasure to endorse Deborah McDermott as a candidate for village trustee. Jenny Bello, Sea Cliff February 20, 2017 To the Editor: I urge you to join me in supporting our neighbor Deb McDermott’s candidacy for one of the two open seats on the Sea Cliff Village Board in the upcoming elections. As a twenty-year resident of Sea Cliff, I have seen the important role the Sea Cliff Village Board plays in preserving the unique attributes of our small, pedestrian-friendly village. Edward Lieberman, Sea Cliff February 23, 2017 To the Editor: At our nation's birth Thomas Jefferson wrote, " The art of government is to be honest." This sacred principle must always be the cornerstone of every elected official's ethos. As the Mayor of Sea Cliff, I verily believe in this ideal and remain vigilant in being honest, open, and tolerant of all opinions. The Village of Sea Cliff is presently in its two-year election cycle with the office of Mayor and that of two Trustees open for the voter's consideration on the occasion of our Village election on March 21. I am respectfully requesting your endorsement to continue as your Mayor and for your support of current Trustees, Dina Epstein and Jeff Vitale. READ MORE |
