VOTE FOR CHERYL BROWN ON MAY 16
Received from Meghan Endres , Glen Head
May 3, 2017 A Message to Our Community On Tuesday, May 16th, the North Shore School District will hold an election for the Board of Education. This election comes at a pivotal time for our school system with significant leadership transition at the superintendent level. The responsibility of our board members is critical in ensuring a smooth transition and keeping our district on a path of integrity in our education vision and commitment to our students. For these reasons, I am recommending that you cast your vote for Cheryl Brown on May 16th. Cheryl’s resume has the experience that I believe is required for a member of our BOE: over 21 years of teaching in the Islip public schools; chaired the Standards of Excellence committee; served on a variety of district committees focused on technology, science, student wellness, among others; served as the designated teacher liaison to the PTA; resident in the North Shore School District for over 8 years; and mother of three current North Shore students. A great illustration of Cheryl’s dedication to the education process with students being the priority is her role on the legislative committee, where for the past three years she has travelled to Albany to directly engage with law makers to fight for our school’s fair funding. From a personal perspective, Cheryl is a loving mom, a generous neighbor and a dedicated community member. Her passion and energy is contagious. Her willingness to sacrifice her time and resources for our children’s needs in an education process where it seems students can be a secondary priority at times, is what is needed now on our Board. I am a fifth generation resident of Glen Head, my children our fourth generation students in this district. I am an educator in a private system in a neighboring town. My husband and I chose to reside in the North Shore community for many reasons, the biggest being the excellent reputation of the NS school district. Our two young children have just begun their educational journey through our schools for the next 12 years. I want the most qualified educators and dedicated leaders who care about our community on our BOE. Caring about the education of our young children and delivering the necessary action is exactly what Cheryl Brown will do for our schools. Vote for Cheryl Brown for BOE on Tuesday , May 16th.
