LETTER TO THE EDITOR
DEB McDERMOTT FOR SEA CLIFF VILLAGE TRUSTEE
Received From Kathleen Reynolds, Sea Cliff
March 1, 2017 To The Editor: It gives me great pleasure to endorse Deborah McDermott as a candidate for Sea Cliff Village Trustee. I have known Deb for four years and I feel privileged to call her my friend. Besides being friends, Deb and I worked together on the campaigns for two successful elections of Trustees to the North Shore School District Board of Education. A natural leader, Deb organized us, guided us and kept us all informed about campaign timelines and the do’s and don’t’s of grassroots campaigning (including the SC Village rules regarding flyers!). She will bring this same enthusiasm and integrity to the role of Village Trustee. Deb works tirelessly as Chair of the Legislative Action Committee (LAC) of the NS Board of Education. Immersing herself in the details of various legislative issues affecting our schools, Deb is a knowledgeable and fair-minded advocate for issues such as the LIPA tax burden shift, the impact of the NYS budget Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) and the ultimate restoration of state aid funds to public schools, preserving district control over teacher evaluations, and many other issues. She regularly attends and provides updates to the various school parent organizations about the work that LAC is doing on our behalf to resolve these issues. It was her desire for transparency and the importance of informing the community about LAC’s efforts that led Deb to initiate these ongoing updates, and to pave the way for the North Shore LAC to join forces with Manhasset and Garden City LACs in order to work together on issues important to all of our districts. Deb will bring this same collaborative spirit and talent for information-sharing to the Village Board in the service of Sea Cliff. I can always count on Deb to be my “voice of reason” when discussing anything from the ups and downs of motherhood to a tricky work-related issue. Her ability to get to the heart of the matter, in an always diplomatic way, would be an asset to our Village. Lastly, Deb’s clear love for all things Sea Cliff is evident in not only her ardent volunteerism, but also in her and her family’s embrace of all that our One Square Mile has to offer: Sea Cliff beach, parks, libraries, SC Civic Association events, and on and on. You’re bound to catch Deb & family around town at any and all of these! I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically support Deb McDermott for Sea Cliff Village Trustee – a person of high integrity, measured judgment and someone who will help lead our village in a collaborative and transparent way. Voting takes places on Tuesday March 21. Voting will take place at the Sea Cliff Children’s Library. Polls are open from noon until 9:00 p.m. Sincerely, Kathleen Reynolds BACK TO WEEKLY |
