FILMMAKERS HOST HAPPY PLANET EVENT TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
This past Saturday afternoon, the makers of the film Nevado hosted a "Happy Planet Celebration" at Tappen Beach. The event sought both to bring attention to the documentary and to advance the filmmakers' aim of promoting "the education and active participation in global issues like climate change by inspiring younger generations to use their imagination and resources to shift the balance in favor of sustainability of the human race."
Children were guided through environmentally friendly activities such as creating and racing balloon powered cars. "The reason we are doing this activity is to teach children to reuse materials and have fun creating toys, which is a positive alternative instead of buying toys constantly. We want to promote an environmental culture for the new generations," said Nevado's Co-Director Brian Torres. El Nevado's website describes the documentary as "a captivating yet awakening story where both nature and human interaction play an important role to explore the reality of the planet’s climate evolution."
