GLEN HEAD CELEBRATES ARRIVAL OF HOLIDAY SEASON WITH TREE LIGHTINGDecember 4, 2013 -- The Glen Head Rotary Club welcomed in the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Glen Head Railroad Station this past Thursday evening. Visitors filing into the cordoned off area in the lot on the eastside of the tracks, were greeted with the festive sounds of holiday music performed by the North Shore High School Brass Ensemble, under the direction of the always charismatic David Soto. As children enjoyed their hot chocolate topped with both marshmallows and a dollop of whipped cream, event emcee and Rotary Club Vice President Kevin Glassman counted down to the moment when the three story evergreen where School Street meets Station plaza became all aglow. Soon after, sirens sounded announcing the arrival of Santa and his helper Cupcake, with transportation courtesy of the Glenwood Fire Company. The man of the hour then mounted the stage and listened to Christmas lists and posed for pictures with the scores of children who lined up to meet him.
The Gold Coast Library also got into the spirt, welcoming children into the annex to make Christmas tree ornaments before the lighting, and afterwards to the enjoy a holiday film. This is the 25th year that the Rotary Club has sponsored the event. BACK TO WEEKLY |
