Good evening, hope everyone is enjoying the snow and cold weather!
Here are some updates on matters going on in the community:
* Halms Industries property (180 Glen Head Road): The real estate developer has spent the last several weeks seeking for interested parties to build an Assisted Living business at the property but claims so far there is no interest. He is now proposing the second alternatives which is to seek developers who would be interested in building Townhouses for people 55+ years of age. We have set up a meeting for Tuesday January 7th at the Glen Head School at 7:30 pm for Civic representatives, and members of the local Civic community adjacent to the property, to join us at this meeting so we can hear and discuss this new proposal. We have asked the real estate developer to bring to the meeting pictures, mock ups, and related drawings, that while not final, can provide us with a sense of their proposal. There are 5.4 acres of land and the proposal is to build 80 Townhouses. So far, we have objected to this high number of Townhouses as we estimate that it would bring over 100 cars to the already traffic dense Glen Head Road. We will remind everyone about the meeting after the Holidays.
* Meeting with Nassau County Traffic Department about traffic patterns at GH 4 corners: John Dussel from the Todd Estates Civic met with Nassau County Traffic representatives as they contacted us about a request we made some 6 months ago for a traffic study for the four corners in Glen Head. We were requesting three items be reviewed: a) the traffic pattern at the four corners - for possibly installing turning arrows, or prompt some other ideas from the Traffic department to relief some of the traffic, b) a review of the dangerous crosswalk in town by Ralph's - seeking for alternative solutions to this crosswalk, and c) a review of the lack of sidewalks between the HS and the Promise deli, where many young people walk to from the school. The meeting went well and the Civics will now wait for the results of the review. We will keep everyone advised.
* Sunoco/Bank property: The delays in signing the contract between the two parties continue, now the Bank taking a significant amount of time in reviewing the latest reply from Sunoco. The Civics are in touch with the Bank and we are expressing our disappointment and are urging the CEO to conclude the signing soon as we can no longer tolerate another summer viewing the property in its current condition. We will keep everyone informed of the progress.
* National Grid meeting: The Civics and National Grid have agreed to hold at least two meetings for members of the community at the NG offices located in Hicksville during early to mid-January. The dates proposed by the Civics are being reviewed and the plan is to ask invite community members who with to attend these meetings with the objective of learning first hand any NG future plans for the GWL location. We will publish the dates prior to the end of the year and will invite neighbors who wish to attend.
