GLEN COVE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S 11TH ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT HONORS COLEEN COLE SPINELLO
August 3, 2017, Glen Cove, NY…Hundreds of Glen Cove residents came out in full force to support the Glen Cove Police Department’s 11th Annual National Night Out event. With Troy Ramey, a recent top 12 contestant on NBC-TV’s “The Voice” setting the stage with a riveting rendition of the National Anthem, Glen Cove Police Department (GCPD) Chief William Whitton opened the evening’s event by acknowledging the importance of National Night Out to strengthen the relationship between the Glen Cove community and its police department. “This event is about ‘unity in the community’ and as law enforcements officials we are proud of the relationship we have with our residents as it is our number one priority to serve and protect the City of Glen Cove,” said Chief Whitton.
Each year during its National Night Out festivities, the GCPD honors an individual whose passionate commitment to public service and the Glen Cove community rises above. For 2017 Chief Whitton and the Glen Cove Police Department recognized Coleen Cole Spinello, a children and community advocate. Chief Whitton acknowledged Mrs. Spinello’s accomplishments as a Nassau County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), manager of St. Rocco’s food bank and outreach program, a co-founder of Glen Cove’s Bully Proof Project and the Glen Cove Community Garden at Big Ralph Park, student mentor and a volunteer for many Glen Cove programs and organizations. Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello then took a moment to recognize his wife’s humanity and selfless generosity by introducing 11 year old Mia Tyler who was the recipient of a kidney donation from Coleen last year. Mia thanked Coleen for her special gift and told the crowd that she named her new kidney Shelby and that she is feeling very good.
After a series of special citations were presented to Coleen by national and local officials, National Night Out participants enjoyed free refreshments, tours of the Glen Cove Police Department, TASER and police equipment demonstrations, an appearance by Mr. Met, karaoke and many other educational and exciting activities. ### Photo Credit: Gill Associates Photography Photos: 1) National Night Out Honoree Coleen Spinello (center) with (L to R) PO Telese, Sgt.
