JOANNA COMMANDER FOR NORTH SHORE BOEReceived from Roger Friedman, Sea Cliff
May 6, 2014 To the Editor: I am writing to voice my support for Joanna Commander for The North Shore Board of Education. It is my belief that we need people on the BOE that will represent the best interests of the children of our district as well as those of the property owners and residents of the NS School District. I firmly believe that, when making decisions that affect us all, Ms. Commander will carefully consider the needs of our diverse community. She has the requisite experience in education and management and is a proven leader. She has also been responsible for the significant budget of athletic programs for Lynbrook Schools and Harborfield Schools -- experience that is critical for a member of the BOE. More importantly she has the temperament needed to be successful in this very important role. We need people on the board who can successfully build consensus and Ms. Commander has a proven track record of getting all parties involved and facilitating solutions that demonstrate compromise and the best interests of all stake holders. We need a resident of our community who understands the complexities involved in running our schools efficiently while providing our children with the world class education that they will need to compete in an increasingly complex global economy. A great education is vital to our children and it is vital to us as property owners in order to maintain North Shore’s excellent reputation as one of the best and most desirable school districts on Long Island, and indeed in New York State.
