November 5, 2014 -- Incumbents swept local legislative races this Tuesday, with Senator Carl Marcellino being re-elected to his 10th full 2-year term in the New York State Senate, and voters returning to the the Assembly the three incumbents representing the area - Charles Lavine (D - Glen Cove), Michael Montesano (R - Glen Head), and Edward Ra (R - Franklin Square). Jack Martins (R-Mineola), whose district includes Roslyn Harbor and areas of Glenwood Landing once again prevailed in a Senate district that leans Democratic, while Congressman Steve Israel was elected to his 8th 2-year term in the House of Representatives.
On Wednesday, Assemblyman Lavine commented, "We should never take this exercise in democracy for granted," and thanked his opponents Republican Lou Imbroto and Green Party candidate Jeff Peress "for fighting so hard for their beliefs." Democrat Sea Cliff Mayor Bruce Kennedy who fell short in his bid to unseat Republican Carl Marcellino in the 5th Senate District reflected that he had "learned a lot in the the past few months, met so many great people, became aware, forged new friendships and had fun." "In hindsight, I would have done some things differently," he conceded, "but ultimately I did all I could with what I had" and "stood up for what I believe in "Liberty & Justice for All." Senator Marcellino thanked voters in the 5th Senate district for allowing him "the privilege & honor to represent them in the NYS Senate for another two years." "I pledge to you my best efforts. I will not let you down!" the Senator said. Mr. Marcellino will return to a state Senate in which the GOP will now be in the majority, albeit a slim one with 32 Republicans and 31 Democrats.
