GLEN HEAD RESIDENT AMONG THOSE HONORED BY ASSEMBLYMAN RA AS A 2015 WOMAN OF DISTINCTION
On Saturday, September 26, Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) hosted his 2015 Women of Distinction Ceremony. The event, which took place at the Albertson VFW Post 5253, honored women from across the 19th Assembly District for their unwavering commitment to improving their communities, families and careers.
Among those who was recognized was Glen Head resident Gina Serroen, co-President of the American Legion Auxiliary Glenwood Landing Unit 336, who has been a tireless advocate for Veterans - especially those who are homeless. In pursuit of that end, she has volunteered at "Stand Downs," where veterans are able to get valuable information about benefits, job counseling, and legal advice, as well as receive donated items such as clothing and services including haircuts, and dental cleanings. Additionally she has assisted veterans in obtaining housing through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing programs, and each month prepares care packages for servicemen and women stationed overseas. “This annual event provides me with an opportunity to show my genuine appreciation for the women who strive to make our community a better place to live,” said Assemblyman Ra. “I am pleased to honor the women who have made great contributions to our community as dedicated leaders, entrepreneurs, educators and advocates. Each of these women has gone above and beyond to help our communities grow and flourish.” In addition to Ms. Serroen, this year’s distinguished honorees included: Linda Babolcsay (Franklin Square), Michelle Kaiserman (Garden City), Nina McCann (Williston Park), Christine Mullaney (Garden City), Susan Quigley (Garden City), Angie Ruhry (Garden City), Antonietta Scarapicchia (Floral Park), Diana Tjaden (Garden City), and Theresa Trouvé (Garden City). This past August, Ms. Serroen was one of four veterans awarded a Nassau County Distinguished Service to Veterans Medal by County Executive Edward Mangano. BACK TO WEEKLY |
