FORTUNATE TO HAVE DEB McDERMOTT AS A CANDIDATE FOR SEA CLIFF VILLAGE BOARD
Received from
Debra Thoet, Sea Cliff March 2, 2017 Dear Editor, As a Sea Cliff resident, I feel very fortunate to have Deborah McDermott as a candidate for Village Trustee this year. Deb has had a big impact on our Village in the 12 years that she has lived here. As a parent and communications professional, Deb has worked tirelessly to improve communications between the North Shore School District, our local legislators, and the families who live here. She began by building a new website for the Parent Community Association at Sea Cliff School. Since 2012, Deb has served on North Shore’s Legislative Action Committee, or LAC. As a member and now Chair of the LAC, Deb has worked to help North Shore residents understand the complex legislative issues that affect our schools, and to build relationships with the government leaders that represent us. Deb’s expertise was showcased when she helped create a coalition between our North Shore LAC and those from Garden City and Manhasset to work together to lobby our legislators. The coalition allowed us to share resources, and more importantly, strengthened our influence on issues that our districts have in common. Deb’s business experience as a communications professional at IBM would be a tremendous asset to our Village. She has been an executive speech writer, a collaboration strategist, a writer, and an editor. She led the integration of communications teams through several acquisitions and managed quarterly financial reporting communications to internal audiences. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College. In addition to serving as Editor of Wellesley’s school paper, Deb was captain of the Swimming and Diving Team, earning NCAA All-American and Academic All-American recognition. Personally, I have known Deb for a few years and I have always been impressed with her intelligence, strength of character, and desire to make our community a better place. Her drive to improve communication between community leaders and the public will promote greater awareness and involvement within our Village. Having Deborah McDermott on the Board of Trustees would be a great asset to the Village of Sea Cliff, and I strongly encourage everyone to vote for her as Village Trustee on Tuesday, March 21. Sincerely, Debra Thoet BACK TO WEEKLY |
