The Cove Animal Shelter on Shore Road in Glen Cove recently held a ribbon cutting to open up and celebrate what is new and improved there. With 80 people in attendance Board Member Betty Geiger talked about the new outdoor dog play area and an entire new section for cats with cat-doors that allow them access to a screened in area. She said “These additions are in keeping with the goals of a cage-free environment that are healthier for the animals and inviting to the community” Ms. Geiger thanked the staff and the many volunteers who work at Cove. She continued by saying that since operations started, 80 dogs have been adopted as well as the neutering of over 150 feral cats; many of which were socialized and adopted out. She also thanked people for their donations to help make this day possible.
Mayor Reginald Spinello was on hand to give the City Certificate of Appreciation for the one year anniversary. He complimented the staff and the construction saying how quick things went up. The Mayor along with Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles were present to cut the ribbon and lead a group on a tour of the rescue.
