On December 10th, 2016, the North Shore Basketball programs hosted a Coaches vs. Cancer event at the North Shore School District. The teams included North Shore Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys and Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls. All four teams played against Floral Park, while younger youth teams played during halftime. North Shore Coach Kevin Carpenter said, It turned into a great community experience where everyone came together to support the cause of bringing awareness and raising funds for the American Cancer Society.” The basketball players, families, cheerleaders, North Shore booster club, the Floral Park basketball program, and many faculty and staff all played a major role in helping to raise a grand total of $5,400 to be contributed to the American Cancer Society. Coach Carpenter added, “Every day we strive to teach our players the game of basketball. It is important to also teach them life lessons that they will be able to take with them beyond the game. Today we saw some really great basketball games but what was more impressive was the response we received as a community to unite behind this cause in which so many of us have been affected.” Thank you to all who participated and joined in the efforts to help raise money for those that have been touched by cancer.
