Children Helping Children
Each year, the Glen Cove Youth Bureau, in collaboration with the Friends of Glen Cove Youth Board collect school supplies for needy students in the Glen Cove School District. The success of this drive is dependent upon the donations that are received by area businesses, organizations and individuals. Basic school supplies and backpacks will be collected through August 22 at the Youth Bureau (128B Glen Street), Glen Cove Library (near the magazine reading area) and City Hall (Clerk’s office, 3rd floor). All donations are welcomed and appreciated. Monetary donations are also accepted. Please make check payable to “Friends of the Glen Cove Youth Board” and mail to Glen Cove Youth Bureau, 128B Glen Street, Glen Cove, NY 11542. For more information, call Cindy Rogers at 516-671-4600.
Ilyssa Sealove, a college intern at the Youth Bureau is overseeing the collection effort this year. Ilyssa sent out solicitation letters to individuals, businesses and organizations and decorated the collection boxes that can be found around town. Ilyssa is now busy organizing donations and getting them ready for students in September.
The Youth Bureau is fortunate to receive many donations for this effort. Some of our perennial donors are students Cassandra and Matthew Nochowitz. With support from their aunt, Cassandra and Matthew went shopping and filled four backpacks with all of the supplies that students their age need to start the school year off on the right foot.
Cassandra and Matthew recently delivered their donation to Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello. Ilyssa was on hand to gratefully accept the donation. Many thanks to Cassandra, Matthew and Ilyssa for a job well done.
