Trustees Elect Lara Gonzalez and Joanna Commander Tuesday night
May 20, 2014 -- On Tuesday, the North Shore School District's $95,850,328.85 spending plan for the 2014-15 school year passed easily with 1541 or 72.6% of voters supporting the budget, and 682 or 27.4% voting "no." Joanna Commander and Lara Gonzalez were each elected to three year terms as Board of Education Trustees. Ms. Commander received 1336 votes and Ms. Gonzalez 1321. Robert Mazzella finished third with 1219 votes. Voter turnout was low, with nearly 800 fewer residents turning out to polls this year than last year. The budget for the upcoming school year is 1.984% greater than the current year's budget, and the approved tax levy of $87,883,212, represents a 1.532% rise over this year, and is nearly $320,000 below the state imposed tax levy limit. On average, taxpayers can expect to see a $12.29 per month increase in their school tax bill.
