WITH BLOOD BANKS DECLARING SHORTAGES MANY RESIDENTS HEED THE CALL
This past Monday, both the Gold Coast Public Library in Glen Head and the Sea Cliff Fire Department hosted blood drives for the New York Blood Center, which had announced recently that there were severe shortages at its blood banks. The Gold Coast event was sponsored by New York State Assemblymen Ed Ra and Michael Montesano.
Donors at both locations were rewarded for their generosity with not only the satisfaction derived from having helped someone else, but with a pair of tickets to a Mets game. At the Sea Cliff Firehouse, where donors were treated to a meal courtesy of the Fire Department, forty residents responded to the call with 33 being able to donate, and among those, six donors each giving a quart of red blood cells. "Thank you to the Community," said Jack Pierce, who organized the Sea Cliff event on relatively short notice. "And a special thank you to the Sea Cliff Fire Department's Benevolent Association for providing food and refreshments." The Fire Department will once again be hosting a blood drive in January, as it does every year. BACK TO WEEKLY |
