ART OF BARBARA KARLOWICH AT DANIEL GALE

Sea Cliff Arts Council presents the artwork of Barbara Karlowich at Daniel Gale/ Sotheby's of Sea Cliff through April. Please join us for the art opening on Sunday, April 12th, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
A welcome colorful addition to the local art scene, Barbara Karlowich’s paintings offer a relaxed contemporary style reminiscent of the Fauvist’s bright multi-hued choices. Her portraits were born out of a desire to portray the feelings of her female models in an expansive and vivid definition. An innocence of style shines through with a charming calm, dominated by a rich palette. Her style supports a loose interpretation of the Post Impressionists as she decidedly chooses strong color and bold shapes.
Form and solid space reign alongside interpretive themes and matter of nature. Her open composition equates objects, people and background to a parallel balancing act of an expressionistic style.
Moving towards figurative painting in the past few years, Karlowich finds a strong guiding force through nature and dreams, adopting many earth tones of blue and green. Her feminine subjects appear as soft and dreamy, strong and contemplative. Her paintings have a whisper of a story to tell you if you lean in to look and listen.
Barbara Karlowich is a graduate of The School of Visual Arts, NYC where she studied painting and photography.
