ASSEMBLYMAN LAVINE TO HOST MEETING ON COMMON CORE, HIGH STAKES TESTING
Glen Cove, NY –Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) is inviting the community to an informational panel discussion on the state educational policy agenda and requirements for public school districts in New York.
The program will be held at Glen Cove City Hall on December 11, at 7 pm. Assemblyman Lavine will be joined by LIU/Post Professor Arnold Dodge, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Administration, Maria Rianna, Superintendent of the Glen Cove School District, and Jeannette Deuterman, Co-Founder of New York State Allies for Public Education and Founder and Administrator of the Facebook Group Long Island Opt-Out. Assemblyman Lavine said the meeting will give the community an opportunity to learn what policymakers intended by adopting Common Core and what impact Standardized Testing is having on students, teachers and administrators. “We are hoping to have an honest and open discussion about Common Core and the facts and myths surrounding the current curriculum in our public schools,” said Assemblyman Lavine. “There is concern on the part of administrators, teachers, parents and students; enough so that a dialogue is needed to understand where we are now, where we hope to be and how we get there.” For information, contact Assemblyman Lavine’s office at 516-676-0050. |
