GLEN HEAD'S ANDREA BOLENDER TO BE HONORED BY HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL AND TOLERANCE CENTER ON SEPTEMBER 24Glen Cove, NY - The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) presents the 24th Annual Tribute Dinner,Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 6 p.m., at the Woodbury Jewish Center, 200 South Woods Road, Woodbury, NY. Andrea Bolender of Glen Head, NY, a member of HMTC’s Board of Directors, will be honored with a Legacy Award. Other honorees this year are Steven Dubner, founder of Steven Dubner Landscaping, Inc.; David B. Samadi, M.D., a Urologic Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering; and Emily Berkowitz and Ilise Friedman, Holocaust educators at HMTC.
Ms. Bolender has a degree from NYU Stern School of Business. She has served on the HMTC Board of Directors since 2005. Ms. Bolender has chaired many events and each year leads the Long Island delegation of the March of the Living International tour. Her involvement at HMTC is in loving memory of her father Benek Bolender, a Survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau. She is thankful her beautiful family is so supportive of her efforts in promoting Holocaust education and remembrance. Dr. Deborah Dwork, Rose Professor of Holocaust History and Founding Director of the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University, will be the special keynote speaker. She will discuss “We Were Strangers: Refugees Then and Now.” Dr. Dwork is an award-winning author of Children With a Star, Flight from the Reich, and Auschwitz among others.
