(response no more than 500 characters) Jonathan Clarke - Income inequality is currently the worst that it has been since the great depression. I will address this problem through eliminating unjust economic policies such as the carried interest loophole, which allows hedge fund managers to make enormous profits while paying little in tax. Education is essential for equalizing pay inequalities. Sadly, a college education is becoming prohibitively expensive. We must make college affordable. ENERGY POLICY - What immediate steps would you propose to still meet America's energy needs while reducing global warming? (response no more than 500 characters) Jonathan Clarke I am the only candidate who has signed the Climate Mobilization Pledge. This pledge calls for a government-coordinated mobilization of our economy and society to end US net emissions by 2025. To meet America's energy needs, we need a massive scale-up of renewable energy production. The government will partner with existing businesses to scale up production and also will partner with universities and private companies to continue research into improving renewable energies. TRANSPORTATION - What steps would you propose to rebuild and maintain America's transportation infrastructure, including the US Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account? (response no more than 500 characters) Jonathan Clarke In order to compete in a global economy, we need a well functioning infrastructure. This means a power grid that is not susceptible to blackouts, an efficient and safe transit system, and clean drinking water. We feel the crumbling of our national infrastructure very acutely on Long Island and Queens. I propose we claw back the trillions of dollars that large corporations stash overseas to evade taxes and use that revenue to fund infrastructure projects. BALLOTPEDIA PROFILE CLICK HERE |

From 2004 through 2013, Jon Kaiman served ten years as North Hempstead Town Supervisor, the chief executive of the fifth largest town (by population) in the United States. Campaign Web Site http://jonkaimanforcongress.com/ Campaign Email [email protected] ECONOMY - What steps would you propose at the federal level to reduce income inequality, while still encouraging economic growth? (response no more than 500 characters) Jon Kaiman Firstly, I support raising the minimum wage to 15 an hour. In regards to supporting the business community, we need to address issues such as utility costs, infrastructure needs, transportation, and education. There are many challenges to running a business on Long Island and we need our federal, state and local governments to work together in order to help our business community thrive. In addition, we need to support our school system and provide opportunity to all. ENERGY POLICY - What immediate steps would you propose to still meet America's energy needs while reducing global warming? (response no more than 500 characters) Jon Kaiman Jon supports moving our nation away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy sources. Not only will this help prevent another Hurricane Sandy, it will strengthen our economy and national security by spurring investment into green technologies that will lead to job creation while also reducing our dependence on foreign oil. As Town Supervisor, Jon started the process of replacing the town’s fleet of vehicles with hybrids and electric vehicles. TRANSPORTATION - What steps would you propose to rebuild and maintain America's transportation infrastructure, including the US Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account? (response no more than 500 characters) Jon Kaiman Jon supports investing in our crumbling infrastructure which would not only create hundreds of thousands of good paying construction jobs but spearhead future development projects which would generate economic growth and create permanent jobs. Jon believes the a strong middle class is the key to a thriving economy and that necessary infrastructure improvement projects should be done utilizing local, well-trained workers who follow government guidelines BALLOTPEDIA PROFILE CLICK HERE |

(response no more than 500 characters) Anna KaplanI believe we must make college more affordable and relieve student debt. I believe we need to expand and stabilize funding for Pell Grants as well as lower interest rates for student borrowers. Student borrowers and their families should not pay higher rates than big banks. We also need to expand affordable housing both for seniors and for our next generation. Also, our trade deals must focus on good paying jobs, not creating a race to the bottom for labor and environmental standards. ENERGY POLICY - What immediate steps would you propose to still meet America's energy needs while reducing global warming? (response no more than 500 characters) Anna KaplanWe must expand renewable energy like solar, hydro and geothermal power. These are the only truly safe means to fill our needs without contributing to global warming. I applaud Governor Cuomo's ban on hydrofracking in New York, but believe that in other places in the country, if the residents of that place are supportive and we can reduce or eliminate environmental concerns, natural gas does make a cleaner fuel than coal or oil. TRANSPORTATION - What steps would you propose to rebuild and maintain America's transportation infrastructure, including the US Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account? (response no more than 500 characters) Anna Kaplan We must rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. I would work in Congress to identify new funding streams to pay for our nation's roads and bridges. Gas taxes are always unpopular and have a tendency to work regressively, hurting the people who need to use the service most. I believe we must reauthorize funding for the Trust Fund but also examine who benefits the most from our infrastructure and find ways to pass costs along to them instead of those most at need. Steve is also a coach in the Half Hollow Hills Little LeagueEconomy: What steps would you propose at the federal level to reduce ECONOMY - What steps would you propose at the federal level to reduce income inequality, while still encouraging economic growth? (response no more than 500 characters) Steve Stern It is unacceptable that 8 years after the Lily Ledbetter Act, women still face wage disparity and a Congress determined to turn back the clock on progress. I strongly support the Paycheck Fairness Act and I will work hard to ensure fundamental fairness for all workers. I am committed to increasing the minimum wage, paid family leave, paid sick leave, support for family caregivers and access to childcare through tax credits and protecting women from sexual harassment in the workplace. ENERGY POLICY - What immediate steps would you propose to still meet America's energy needs while reducing global warming? (response no more than 500 characters) Steve Stern It is critical that we continue to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create incentives for alternative and sustainable energy sources that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create good paying jobs. Ending wasteful subsidies to big oil and the Keystone pipeline will allow for investments in our future, including solar, wind, fuel cell and other emerging technologies to meet our needs for generations to come. TRANSPORTATION - What steps would you propose to rebuild and maintain America's transportation infrastructure, including the US Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account? (response no more than 500 characters) Steve Stern We must reimagine and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, which is critical for our transportation needs, our economic growth and our quality of life. Infrastructure is also an important investment, returning $6 to our economy for every dollar invested. In refocusing our priorities from oil subsidies to roads, bridges, tunnels and mass transit and by creating a National Infrastructure Bank to leverage public and private sector financing, we can move our infrastructure and economy forward. (response no more than 500 characters) Thomas Suozzi I still believe in the American dream, but it has changed thanks to globalization and rapidly changing technology. In Congress I will fight for more skills, more jobs, more wages. I will get federal funding back to our district for infrastructure projects and clean energy projects to create more jobs. I will work to prepare our youth to work in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields, to combat the tide of jobs outsourcing overseas, and ensure our future prosperity. ENERGY POLICY - What immediate steps would you propose to still meet America's energy needs while reducing global warming? (response no more than 500 characters) Thomas SuozziNamed “Environmentalist of the Year,” by the League of Conservation Voters, and being endorsed in this race by the Long Island Environmental Voters Forum, I have an environmental record I am proud of. In Congress I will fight to increase our energy independence, lower our energy expenditures, and transition the country toward cleaner, more cost-effective energy sources. Clean energy investment will safeguard our economic and national security, and improve our overall public health. TRANSPORTATION - What steps would you propose to rebuild and maintain America's transportation infrastructure, including the US Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account? (response no more than 500 characters) Thomas SuozziWe need to bring our tax dollars back to our district, and invest in our roads, bridges and tunnels. As a former mayor and county executive, I navigated the complex bureaucracy in Washington, bringing tens of millions in federal funds back home. I know how to bring our hard earned tax dollars back to our communities, and in Congress I will fight to keep more of our tax dollars in our district so we can reinvest in our infrastructure, and bring jobs and economic growth to our community.
