North Shore High School students in the Spanish program had the privilege of hosting exchange students from our sister-school, IES Playa San Juan, near the city of Alicante on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Twenty-six students, accompanied by their teachers, lived with North Shore families and attended the high school from September 8-22. Additionally, North Shore students hosted the Alicante children by touring them around Long Island and Manhattan, and graciously gave them a taste of what New York is like!
While in New York, the students engaged in many educational and enjoyable activities and events. These included day trips to the United Nations, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Washington Square Park, China Town, and Central Park. On Long Island, students also visited Jones Beach and Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt in Oyster Bay.
The North Shore High School students remarked, “It was a great experience having the Alicante kids here!” In February 2016, the students who hosted will be traveling to Alicante to do a homestay, as well as travel in Spain.
