Twenty-two students from L'Institution La Providence in St. Malo, France visited the North Shore School District this December 2016. French teacher, Eric Lepetit said, “The goal of this exchange is to introduce the American students to people from another culture with the hope that they will understand how similar they are and how small our world is.”
Accompanied by their teachers to the United States, the French students lived with North Shore families in the district. For the first day of school, they attended all classes with their host students. Following that, whenever at school, they visited French classes and assisted in lessons at North Shore Middle School and North Shore High School. At the middle school, the NS students made games, prepared signs, and one student even wrote an original song for the arrival of the French students.” They also completed the work they had been assigned in France. Additionally, Mr. Lepetit added, “My students even learned how to text in French to an individual French student and then have entire "conversations" in text!”
While in New York, the students engaged in many educational and enjoyable activities and trips. This included 5 day trips to New York City where they visited most of the major sites including the Freedom Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Bridge. They also saw a Broadway show and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
In addition, North Shore French students will be leaving for France from February 16 to March 4, 2017. The North Shore students will spend five days touring Paris and will see many popular sites including the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum. Mr. Lepetit added, “After visiting the capital of France, we will travel to St. Malo where our students will stay with host families, attend L'Institution La Providence, and visit important sites such as Mont St. Michel and the beaches of Normandy. There will be 22 students and three adult chaperones going on the trip to France.” Photo Caption: Article by Shelly Newman with assistance from Eric Lepetit Photos mostly by Shelly Newman Twenty-two students from L'Institution La Providence in St. Malo, France visited the North Shore School District this December 2016.
