20th ANNUAL JULY 4TH CELEBRATION
AND SOMETHING NEW!
Mark your calendars for 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 4th, rain or shine! The Sea Cliff Civic Association invites you to attend a gala celebration of America’s Declaration of Independence on the John Burns Village Green, in front of the adult library.
The Civic Association is planning a program that will include ringing the village bell, the presentation of colors, a short play about the signers of the Declaration, refreshments and much more. As has been the tradition, the highlight of the morning’s event will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence by a variety of Sea Cliff villagers but this year the Civic Association will also be adding something new. Right after the Reading of the Declaration ends, there will be a bicycle parade from the Village Green down Sea Cliff Ave. to Lincoln Plaza where refreshments will be served. Children are invited to decorate their bicycles, wagons, scooters and strollers (no roller skates, skateboards or pets) with patriotic flair. They can do this on their own or join others on Saturday, July 2 at the Children’s Library. Although the Reading will take place, rain or shine, the parade will depend on clear weather. Sea Cliffers have been celebrating July 4th with a Reading of the Declaration since 1996. On this 20th anniversary of the first Reading we continue this wonderful tradition and also reinvigorate it with something new. Please be sure to be there and bring your family and friends. Start this holiday by remembering what the picnics and fireworks are really all about. Submitted by Jennifer Kline BACK TO WEEKLY |
