NORTH SHORE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO BEGIN BUDGET REVIEW AT THURSDAY JANUARY 29 MEETING
On Thursday, January 29, the North Shore Board of Education will begin its line by line review of the the 2015-16 budget proposal. At the January 15 meeting, Schools Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick presented a general overview the $97,851,848 spending plan - a 2.09% increase over the current year, with a proposed tax levy increase of 1.66%.
Thursday's review will include the following sections: Central Administration, Central Services, Commercial Insurance/BOCES, Supervision of Instruction, Regular Instruction, Board of Education, and Special Education. Additionally, the Superintendent and seven trustees will begin its review of District Policies. Copies of the budget drafts will be available at the meeting. It is anticipated that the Board will meet in Executive Session prior to the public session at 6:30 P.M. Executive session is not open to the public. The public meeting will take place at North Shore Middle School at 7:30 P.M. in the cafeteria. Thursday's review is the first of several that will take place over the next few months. The schedule is as follows - 2/26 (Budget Review), 3/12 (Budget Review), 3/26 (Budget Review), 4/16 (Budget Adoption), Tuesday, 4/28 (Meet the Candidates Night, HS Cafeteria, 8 PM), and 5/7 (BOE Town Meeting/Budget Reading). The Budget/Tax Levy Vote and Election of Trustees will be on Tuesday, 5/19, in the North Shore High School Gym from 7 A.M. -10 P.M. |
